Mini Implant Assisted Orthodontics

The past several years have seen tremendous advancements in braces technology. Using Orthodontic Mini Implants or "Pins" is a part of this rapidly developing technology. The "Pins provide Dr. Ratani a fixed anchor for space closure, molar uprighting, correction of open bites and many other tooth movements. In this way Dr.Ratani is able to get results that may not have been accomplished with braces alone.

The advantages to the patient include, greater comfort, i.e. no headgear, lip bumpers and other auxiliaries, speeds treatment and drastically reduce compliance required. Placing the Pins is done in the office with just a gel anaesthetic (no shots most of the time!) and is virtually pain free.

The Difference between Orthodontic Implant and Regular Implant

The role of implant used to restore teeth is to replace a missing tooth. The implant stays with the patient for many years, the pressure put on it is great and is meant to function for years of mastication. Orthodontic implants used to straighten teeth are called mini implants/micro screws. They serve as temporary implants-small fine screws which are meant to be used for a few months to a year. The pressure put on them is not for an extended period of time.
